Finally a break from the record snowfall in December 2008. Since the first of the year the snow has been melting and this weekend the driveway was dry. I was able drive (very slow down the street and back) our new 1957 Chevy Custom for the first time since it was delivered in the snow storm just before Christmas. I can’t wait for this spring and summer to come.
This fall after 20 years of collecting cars we have all our cars under one roof…
For as long as I can remember I’ve been a member of the major national car clubs of all the cars I have owned. 2007 was the first time we have been able to participate with a car that could compete on the national level. We attended the NCRS Corvette Convention in Levanworth, Washington with our 1967 Corvette…the car earned a “Top Flight” award 97.9 out of 100. It was pretty cool to particape rather than just read about it in the clubs bi monthly news letter.
This year we took three cars (1955 Thunderbird, and both 1960 Corvettes) down to the Car d’Lane car show in downtown Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. We had a great spot in front of the Art Spirit Gallery on Sherman Avenue.
This is a picture of our 1955 Thunderbird and 1967 Corvette at the 2007 Car d’Lane car show in Downtown Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. http://www.cdadowntown.com/index_cardlane.asp?pageid=1498 The event is put on by the Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association. The weekends includes a Friday night cruise, Saturday car show with 800 + cars, and a Silver Collector Car Auction http://www.silverauctions.com. It’s a fun weekend to enjoy friends and family, classic cars, and Lake Coeur d’Alene .
1967 Marlboro Maroon Corvette, Matching #’s 327/350hp with 4speed, 4 Time NCRS Top Flight, Bloomington Gold, and Chevy Vettefest Gold Spinner. We no longer have this car we traded it for a 1960 Corvette Big Brake Fuelie with a “Duntov” Award.
This is the day that we were trading our Marlboro Maroon 1967 Corvette for the Roman Red 1960 Big Brake Fuel Injection Corvette. It was a bitter sweet day seeing a car we loved go, but we were excited about the new arrival. All three cars pictured… we purchased from Greg Wyatt @ http://www.vintagecorvettes.com
1957 Chevy being delivered the week of North Idaho’s record December 2008 snowfall and below freezing temps…The 57 was being delivered from sunny Scottsdale and didn’t want start in North Idaho cold…we had to get an extension cord and battery charger to give it a little boost. That’s sounds easy except this car is a full custom with 100’s of changes made including concealing both batteries. Thankfully I was able to get a hold of the previous owner and the builder of the car Bob Conklin to walk us thru how to hook up the cables. The time of year and cold weather made what normally would be simple into a adventurer.
As time goes by all cars become desirable, collectable, or fond memories for someone (which makes them want to own or collect those cars). There was a time when the the 1955-1957 owners didn’t want the 1958-1966 owners to be recognized in any of there clubs, because they thought they were not classic enough or something. Today the Big Birds are very collectable and have a large following. That’s just one of many examples of how cars become desirable or interesting over time. The same goes for all the makes and generations of design. Thankfully the car collectors are as diverse as the 100+ years of cars available to find, buy, sell, trade, restore, and collect. This 1962 T-Bird pictured below was purchased new by my grandparents, and was my first car. We still have it in the family. Thanks, Brad Enders
